Anker’s vertical mouse incorporates a vertical design that intends to emulate a handshake position when using the mouse. This mouse has 5 buttons overall with the thumb side having a next and last page feature and the hand side having left and right mouse click buttons. The top of the thumb side also has the DPI selector to change the optical resolution tracking from 800, 1200, and 1600 as needed. The tracking is reported to be excellent on this device with good readings on a lot of surfaces. There is also a scroll wheel.

There is decent thumb support built into this mouse, but there isn’t a lip or rest that is specifically for thumb support. On the hand side of the mouse the pinky finger doesn’t have a specific support point and can drag on the mouse pad or desk when in use. This is something that could concern potential users of this mouse.

The quality of the build is of solid material and most reports seem to be complimentary. Based on performance alone this device is a decent entrant into the market especially where value is a concern, but there are some limitations in comparison to the competition such button customization options.

In the wireless version reviewed there is a nano receiver that connects via USB and interfaces to the mouse. There is also a wired USB version available which can be viewed here. The DXT wireless mouse 2 has a vertical design that allows it to be used interchangeably from right to left handed usage. To make the change all that is required is a quick flip of a switch on the mouse and you are changing hands. For users who are trying a strategy of swapping hands this feature would be beneficial.

One of the first things that jumps out about this mouse compared to some of the other vertical mice out there is that it is very compact and almost small in comparison. Unless you have tiny hands this is not going to be a whole hand mouse. That is a feature not a flaw as Kinesis intentionally made a mouse that was more focused on the fingers and hand for its movement then the arm and shoulder. Their belief is that using this grip which is more like holding a pen is a more ergonomic, natural, and functional way of using a mouse. This trackball starts out with a good list in its favor. The 8 buttons that can be customized to the user’s preferences are a big choice compared to other trackballs available. It also includes a scroll wheel that not only is clickable but also can be tilted up or down to control movement on your screen. All of these input options plus the good scrolling ball itself are positives. A concern is that of the buttons available the thumb is going to get a workout using them. Of the 8 available clicking options (includes the scroll wheel) 7 of them are thumb activated on the left side of the trackball. The other button directly to the right of the ball is activated by either the middle or ring finger. The three buttons and the scroll wheel are in accessible areas for the thumb, but the three top right buttons can be a little difficult to reach with the thumb.

The tracking and control on this trackball is nice and smooth. The ball gives good control of movement on screen with nice responsiveness. It is switchable from 750 to 1500 DPI for user customization on the control. There are two on the left side of the device above the ball and then two in the normal space that you would find left and right click on a mouse with one extra on the right for the ring finger. The high/low DPI settings switch is also on the top of this trackball. All of the buttons are customizable using the ELECOM software to map them to your preferences. In addition to the clickable scroll wheel it is worth noting also that it supports tilt on the scroll wheel also for additional control.

The thumb controlled ball on the left side has good responsiveness and scroll control. This makes it easy to control the cursor or screen with precision regardless of whether you are gaming or getting down to serious business in Excel. With a free-floating design that is held in your hand and then a small ball and few buttons it is minimal and definitely allows free range of motion. But does it live up to its promise?

This handheld trackball is a smaller device as would be expected from something intended not to sit on a desk or table. It has a very simple design – put it in your hand and the index finger goes into the trigger button and the thumb goes to the roller ball and outside buttons. The left click is operated by the trigger button, the outside right button maps to right click, and the outside left button maps to scroll. That is about it and from there it is just about practicing until you become used to the device.

The trackball does operate in a smooth fashion and controls the movement on the screen well. As it has to be in a handheld device the ball is smaller than a fullsize trackball, but fits the size for the handheld device quite well. A handheld trackball mouse input device isn’t quite a novelty item even though it is a bit unusual. It gives some interesting features from an ergonomic perspective including allowing free range or motion and multiple positions of use. There is however a learning curve to overcome when first trying to use it which will have to be broken through with time. This one seems like an ok choice for a secondary mouse or for recreational use such as web surfing, but doesn’t seem like it would fit as well for business or gaming activities. Apple has a history of releasing innovative new products and they did that again with the Magic Mouse (MB829LL/A). This mouse is obviously compatible with Mac products and their OS and has some really cool features that incorporate some of their touch gesture controls in a mouse that they have used so successfully on other devices.

As with all Apple products this one receives many high marks in the look and feel category. Most reports are that this seems to be a well liked mouse and that people are happy with its performance overall with a couple of caveats. This great form factor is almost just expected with Apple products and this one doesn’t disappoint with a really nice and polished look.

One of the main features that the Apple Magic Mouse has that makes it special in its category is the multi touch control. Combining some aspects of a touch device into a mouse, Apple allows for scrolling and control as if the top of the mouse was a touchpad device. With the ability to control the mouse with gestures one of the common uses is for easy scrolling up and down web pages to make internet browsing easier.

The tracking on this device is reported to be much better than standard optical devices and in terms of having good control of the cursor on screen by the mouse seems to be little or few complaints. This mouse connects using Bluetooth technology and is a wireless mouse, not a wired one.

This mouse like other Apple mice only has one button and for any PC users coming over to a Mac that can sometimes be an interesting experience. This mouse is able to be configured with the software to be able to perform both left and right mouse clicks by sensing the click on the device.

One of the downsides is that the device has a comparatively short battery life. This isn’t necessarily an uncommon problem for a performance oriented bluetooth mouse to be harder on batteries than an average mouse, but it is something to be aware of as a purchaser. Also, those with larger hands may have a little more trouble working with this mouse for extended periods of time such as for gaming due to its flatter design.
